This project represents a fresh start for an evolving company. MCAN experienced rapid growth during the pandemic, outgrowing their current space. To attract employees back, Senior Leadership engaged in the visioning process with staff resulting in a design that mirrors MCAN’s mission as a mortgage lender and investor within Canada’s real estate markets.

MCAN achieved their goal to get staff back in office through a community focused design. Their previous space was primarily large workstations with high panels that blocked views and restricted natural light. Rather than centering the design solely on the idea of a single home, SGH was inspired to create a sense of belonging for employees through the theme of communities, reflecting their mission as a company.

The design draws from shared spaces that are familiar: a guest facing reception that feels like a plaza, the café reminiscent of a walk in the park, and a workspace that functions like a neighborhood, all infused into the office with familiar forms, shapes and motifs.
